The Problem 

In Cambodia and throughout many developing countries, there exists a significant disconnect between small business owners and the Microfinance Industry. The disconnect exists due to a lack of deep industry understanding of the unique needs of the business owner. Subsequently, many business owners are heavily in debt because of low financial maturity and overallocation of loan products.

The Approach

Applying the Triniti Innovation Design Sprint process we worked with Cambodian NGO’s & Micro Finance Institute’s to come up with a simple yet powerful solution:

The Innovation Design Sprint is a rapid process for answering critical problem/solution questions through design, prototyping, and testing ideas with users. Design Sprints allows organisations to shorten the endless-debate cycle and compress months of work into weeks by working in a structured and guided way. Instead of waiting to launch an actual product to understand if the idea is feasible, organisations get clear data from a realistic prototype that answers key question on the Financial, User and Technology dimensions.

We created a Small Business Assessment Map - that places the human at the centre by understanding their unique mindset and business situation. The map is easy to understand and can be done on a piece of paper. The map helps to educate the business owner on where they are in their journey and helps to track their level of understanding and progress. The map and the tracking process can be powerfully distributed and scaled through technology.
